Pre-Reconstruction, education for "newly freed" slaves took place at the historic Penn School around 1862 at the beginning of the Civil War. This 2-1/2 hour tour includes stops to the Tabernacle Baptist Church (site of Robert Smalls' bust) and the Mathers School in Beaufort, along with various sites on St. Helena Island.
